**Episode Transcription

Welcome everyone. Welcome to a late episode of Love and Murder, the weekly true crime podcast discussing relationships gone terribly wrong. Where our motto is you’re either someone’s last love or their first murder. Before I begin, I just wanted to apologize that the episode did not come out on Sunday. If you go to our Facebook Group or Patreon, I give an explanation as to why it’s late.

I am your host Ky and this show discusses true crime cases told in the form of a story with mystery and suspense.

Be sure to subscribe to Love and Murder on Spotify, Apple or whatever platform you’re on so you don’t miss any of the cases. If you didn’t know, you can also subscribe on our Patreon so that you don’t have to hear an intro or commercials.

In today’s episode, we’re talking about a case of a father who supposedly snapped.

But first, I wanted to remind you to head on over to our exclusive group at patreon.com/loveandmurder. The bonus that’s going out today is of Char and I reacting to a video of a traffic stop that turned into a surprising arrest.

Also, at the end of this episode, I’ll be posting an update about what’s going on with Love and Murder.

So grab your butts, grab your apple juice, and let’s get into some Love and Murder.

So, there’s been a horrible case that happened in Ohio and coverage was requested by LaM Megan G.

This story contains information that is difficult to read.

On June 15, 2023, a 32 year old father named Chad Doerman did the unthinkable. On that day, in a quiet neighborhood, a little girl ran down the street screaming, “He’s killing everyone!” In addition to that, two phone calls went out to the local police station; first, the mother called the police screaming, “my babies have been shot!” and the second was a passing driver who saw the little girl running down the street.

When police arrived, at around 4:15pm, they found Chad sitting on the front stoop of his home. I’ll have the body cam footage in our Patreon. He just sat there like it was a nice Saturday morning while one of his dead sons is on the lawn. He was sitting with nothing on his feet and with his rifle sitting next to him. Officers told him to show them his hands, stand up and walk to them, but he stayed seated. Although he didn’t offer resistance, police grabbed him up and handcuffed him. They did a better job than me because I honestly think I would have beat him senseless. And every time I saw that poor lifeless body I would have kept kicking him until my leg went numb. I know some people are judging me right now – and you may even unsub – saying that I’m being too violent, but I wouldn’t be able to deal with that sight in front of me. I couldn’t….

Police took him into custody as they assessed the scene. Three little boys, ages 7, 4, and 3, lay dead on the ground and their mother had a gunshot wound to her hand.

Chad confesses – allegedly – to lining his three boys up and shooting them, execution style, with his rifle. The first was the 4 year old, who he shot twice in the head while they were still inside. That’s when his daughter ran down the road screaming and his wife was trying to protect her boys, and was holding on to the 3 year old. The 7 year old, tried to run and escape into a field nearby, but his father hunted him down, wounded him from behind, and dragged him back home. He this killed him by shooting him twice in the head from close range. Chad then snatched the 3 year old from the mother, shot her in the hand in the process, and shot the baby in the head. I couldn’t even imagine.

He allegedly told police that he planned the murder for months. Wow!

Chad was charged with three counts of aggravated murder.

“He allegedly lined up his three young sons, who were just 3, 4, and 7 years old, and shot them dead with a rifle. Can you even imagine the terror those poor boys must have felt? It’s beyond comprehension.”

Chad went to court to be arraigned on Friday, June 16, 2023. He came to court in a bullet proof vest, a bewildered look on his face, and cuffs. I’d bet he’d need that vest, because if it were me as these kids mother…….OK I’m not gonna say anything.

According to wcpo.com, “Seven days after the shooting, a Clermont County Grand Jury returned a 21-count indictment against Doerman including nine counts of aggravated murder, eight counts of kidnapping and four counts of felonious assault.” Each count of aggravated murder carries a penalty of death.

Also, each murder carried multiple murder charges against it. This is because, according to the US law, a person can commit aggravated murder in multiple ways against the same victim. This means each way can hold a different charge.

As an example, defense attorney Clyde Bennett said, “In the act of kidnapping a person, you killed someone, and then you kidnapped a person to kill them, and then that person is under 13. That’s three ways you can get to aggravated murder.”

“The Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office threw the kitchen sink at this guy, and wanted to cover all their bases.”

Chad cried as prosecutors talked about the details of the shootings.

Chad’s father, Keith Doerman, said that Chad “just snapped” when he killed his sons. He told the NY Post, “There was something going on in his life that he couldn’t handle no more. I can’t talk to him, they aren’t letting me talk to him so I don’t have any answers. He probably hid a lot of stuff from me.”

He said he’d just visited his son the week before and he’d seemed fine. He also reported that Chad had no history of weird behavior or mental illness or even a criminal record.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that in July 2010, Chad had allegedly choked his father. Charges were filed and the case went to court. Chad plead NOT GUILTY, on July 26, 2010, of domestic violence.  However; his father – the prosecution witness – failed to appear in court so the case was dismissed on August 26, 2010.

“That was not true. The story was wrong and the judge dismissed the case.” Said his father. When asked to elaborate he started crying, said, “I can’t think right now,” and hung up the phone.

Richard Kincannon, a neighbor, told WRTV that Chad had a bad temper and was always angry. “He was angry every day. There wasn’t a day he didn’t yell at his wife and kids out there.”

Chad reportedly used a Marlin Model HC .22 rifle. I’ll have a picture of it in the LaM Patreon.

He plead not guilty and is being held on a $20 million which is the highest in the Clermont County’s history. He is currently being held at the Clermont County Jail until his first court appearance on July 5. Prosecutor Mark Tekulve said that his goal is to “have this man executed.” “I can only imagine the terror these little boys felt and experienced as their father, their protector was murdering them. Unfortunately, their mother saw this. You can imagine the immense trauma and terror that she experienced and we will do the utmost in my office to see this defendant never sees the light of day again.”

Attorney Mark Krumbein, the Defense, said that if Chad is convicted and put on the death sentence, the execution system in Ohio has slowed so much that it’s close to inactivity. The governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine, opposes the death penalty and the last person executed was in 2018. Now, none of these are my thoughts – either for or against – I’m just reporting on what’s being told.

However, even if he’s not executed, he would remain on death row for the remainder of his life.

The kids’ aunt, Rachel Brown, had a go fund me where the family had asked for $20,000. As of today, it’s raised $275,228. These funds are going towards helping the mother and daughter heal after this tragedy.

“Clayton, fondly known as Clayton Man, loved making Lego creations, riding his go-kart, telling jokes, singing and laughing while loving his best dog pal, Gatlin….Hunter, fondly known as Hunter Dog, loved going to the creek and catching frogs and his love of baseball extended beyond the ballfield to his bed, an attachment like an extra arm to connect him to his ball and glove as he slept….Chase, fondly known as Chasers, loved swinging on swings and couldn’t wait to be a baseball player like his brothers. He loved playing with Dinos and pretending to be a superhero. He was the best cuddler, wanting his Mama to stay close by to give her many hugs. He will forever be known as, “Mama’s Baby,”
