Florida Man Friday | Game of Hide-and-Seek Turns to Murder When Woman Left Man to Die in Suitcase | Sarah Boone

Sarah Boone | PA Media

In February 2020, Sarah Boone and her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., were drinking at their home in Winter Park, Florida, when she allegedly zipped him inside a suitcase during what she claimed was a “game of hide-and-seek.” Hours later, Torres suffocated to death. Boone told police she fell asleep and didn’t realize what had happened until the next morning. However, her story quickly fell apart when investigators found videos on her phone showing her taunting and mocking Torres as he begged for help, telling him, “That’s what you get for cheating.”

Despite her claims that it was an accident, Boone was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The defense argued that she had been in an abusive relationship with Torres and suffered from battered spouse syndrome, but the evidence contradicted her version of events. The prosecution emphasized the disturbing videos, where she laughed at Torres’ suffering, proving intent and malice. After multiple delays, her trial finally took place in October 2024, and after less than two hours of deliberation, the jury convicted her of second-degree murder.

On December 2, 2024, Boone was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case, often referred to as the “Suitcase Murder,” shocked the public due to the chilling nature of Boone’s actions and the brutal way Torres lost his life. Was this truly an accident, or was Boone seeking revenge? Listen to the full episode now.

Sarah is charged with second degree murder in the death of her boyfriend Jorge

Anyways, without further ado, uh, let’s get back to your Florida Man Friday episode. The next morning, Sarah claims she was awoken by multiple missed calls. It wasn’t until 1pm that she went downstairs and unzipped the suitcase where she found Jorge dead. Which by the way, just not for nothing, but this is just a side note. I love, I love the name Jorge. I just love saying Jorge. It just sounds good. Like I don’t know. Anyways, she said she immediately called 911 and told the dispatcher, quote, my boyfriend is dead. During their investigation, police found two videos on Sarah’s phone that were recorded around 11pm on Feb. 23. The footage showed Jorge struggling inside the suitcase, repeatedly pleading Sarah saying, quote I can’t effing breathe. Uh, seriously, Instead of helping him, Sarah taunted him by saying, quote that’s what you get. That’s what I feel like when you cheat on me. You should probably shut the frick up. At one point, Jorge managed to get his fingers through the zipper, trying to escape. Sarah then hit his fingers with a baseball bat until he put them back in the suitcase. In another video, Jorge could be heard calling out for her, quote, sarah. To which she responded with quote, that’s my name. Don’t wear it out. Yeah, that’s what you do when you choke me. When Sarah was finished recording, that’s when she went upstairs and went to sleep. A medical examiner ruled Jorge’s death a homicide caused by positional asphyxia. Ah. The autopsy also found scratches on his back, bruising on his shoulders and forehead, and a cut lip consistent with blunt force trauma. These findings contradicted Sarah’s claims that it was all an accident. When police questioned her, Sarah initially denied remembering the video she recorded. When confronted with the footage, she then changed her story. She said, those videos. Those, uh. That’s right. I completely forgot. Yeah, yeah, those videos. I was drunk, and because I was drunk, I both didn’t remember that I recorded this, and I didn’t realize Jorge was in danger. Sarah was arrested the next day and charged with second degree murder. Over the next four years, her legal proceedings were plagued by complications. She went through eight different attorneys, seven of who were court appointed but later withdrew due to conflicts with Sarah. Damn. At one point, she was forced to represent herself. She even submitted a handwritten advertisement for legal representation from jail, describing her case as a, quote, epic opportunity for an attorney. So she’s not taking this seriously at all. An epic opportunity for an attorney? What are you. Are you. Are you kidding me right now? Before trial, prosecutors offered Sarah a, uh, plea deal. 15 years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter with her servant. 85% of her sentence. Why would you offer this to her? Did they not hear what she did to this man? And that’s the prosecution offering this to her. I don’t care if you wanted her to plead guilty. No, absolutely not. What are you okay? Even though her attorney strongly recommended she take it, Sarah said, no, that’s okay. I’m going to convince the jury that Jorge’s death was an accident, and I’m going to get a lesser charge. Jury selection began on October 14, 2024, and Sara’s trial officially started on October 18. The prosecution, led by Assistant State Attorney William J. Argued that Sarah deliberately left Jorge trapped in the suitcase as a punishment and ignored his pleas for help. They then presented the damned video evidence, witness testimonies, and forensic reports that pointed to a deliberate act now, part of being a LAMP patreon, just starting at $3 a month is I have the entire trial along with Sarah’s interrogation in the Patreon. And you get that just by being a sponsor of love and murder. And that starts at the $3 a month tear. So if you want to see her interrogation and see how, ugh, uh, she was, and if you want to see the entire trial, then just go to patreon.com loveandmurder and sign up for the $3 a month tier. Sarah’s defense centered on claims of battered spouse syndrome. Her attorneys argued that she had suffered years of abuse at Jorge’s hands, which led to an impaired state of mind. Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Tonya Werner testified that Sarah showed signs of trauma. Defense expert witness Dr. Julie Harper testified about how past trauma could alter someone’s perception of threats. The defense also highlighted multiple instances of Jorge’s arrest for battery involving Sarah. However, the prosecution countered that Sarah’s actions were not consistent with self defense. First, they talked about her demeanor on the day of the murder when she spoke to the 911 dispatch. They said she was eerily calm. Then they reminded the jury of the videos of her taunting Jorge while he pleaded for help. Prosecutor J emphasized that Sarah acted as the initial aggressor by keeping Jorge trapped. Dr. Werner then testified that battered spouse syndrome did not apply to the circumstances of Jorge’s death. Wow. Wasn’t that the defense’s witness? I have to scroll up and see. I’m pretty sure Dr. Werner was the defense’s witness. Yeah, defense expert witness. Wow. Crazy when your own witness turns against you, huh? Huh? Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tonya Warner testified that the couple’s behavior that evening showed no signs of Sarah feeling at risk. On October 25, after less than two hours of deliberation, the jury returned a, ah, guilty verdict for second degree murder. Before sentencing, uh, Sarah took the stand, gave a, uh, 20 minute speech, and described her time in jail as, quote, one of the greatest experiences. She claimed it had given her time to reconnect with her religion and reflect on her life. Quote, everyone supposes this is one of the worst experiences of my life, but it’s actually been one of the greatest. She also asked forgiveness from Jorge, the Torres family, Judge Kranik, and, quote, the entire planet. Then she backed up all of this with stating that the murder was not intentional. On, um, December 2, 2024, Judge Michael Kranik sentenced Sarah to life in prison without parole. Several of Jorge’s family members delivered emotional victim impact statements. His Mother Blanca Torres cried as she said, she not only killed my son, she killed a father, a, uh, brother, an uncle. His daughter, Ana Victoria Torres spoke about the lasting trauma, saying, the first year after his death, I woke up screaming every morning only to remember all over again that my father was gone. Following her conviction, Sarah’s legal team filed a motion requesting a new trial, citing improper ruling and prosecutorial misconduct.

Sarah sent Judge Kranik a 27 page handwritten letter criticizing multiple judges

However, the court denied this request. Days after her sentencing, Sarah sent Judge Kranik a, uh, 27 page handwritten letter criticizing multiple judges, blaming the jury, blaming attorneys, blaming the media, and even blaming Jorge’s family for her conviction. Quote, I forgive Jorge for beating me senseless. And also, quote, I forgive the jury truly for being weary from this confusion and dysfunction. What the is she. Whoa. Wow. I mean, I would say she, I guess she had time on her hands, but she had time on her hands. And I also have some of that letter in the Patreon. That’s part of the benefits you get for being a sponsor. After her sentencing, uh, Sarah was immediately transferred to the Florida Women’s Correctional Facility in Ocala. Her attorneys plan to file an appeal, but experts believe the overwhelming video evidence makes it unlikely that the verdict will be overturned.

Poll: Do you think Sarah Boone’s sentencing was too harsh

And that lambs is the case of Sarah Boone, a woman who literally left her boyfriend to die in a suitcase, forgot she taped all of it and went to sleep. What did you think about that case? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. And I’m going to go ahead and put out the poll since the poll is back up and working in the Spotify. So I’m going to go ahead and put out a poll in the Spotify. The question is going to be, do you think her sentencing was too harsh? Do you think she should have gotten a lower sentence? And you know, she could have been rehabilitated. So that is the poll question I’m going to put out. You can answer that on the Spotify or you can answer that on Patreon, which that’s going to be out for everybody. Patreon.com loveandmurder and speaking of your comments, let’s get into some of your comments that I haven’t read on air yet.

Woman punches her child in the face over homework mistakes, sparking outrage

So the first comment comes from the case of a woman who punches her child in the face over homework mistakes. And another episode because this was a twofer for that Friday, Christina Bobo said, the way I would have broken my arm, break in Ms. Margaret’s face for the abuse that poor baby sustained. This case gave me flashbacks and doesn’t sit well with me. At all. I doubt that this was the first time she inflicted abuse against a child for not performing to her standards academically, but I hope it’ll be her last. I’ve been homeschooling since the pandemic, and I understand how frustrating teaching can be. But one method that works 100% of the time is walking away. Verbal berating doesn’t help, Threatening doesn’t help, and assault most certainly does not help. People learn best when there’s less pressure, in my opinion. I grew up with a grandmom that had the belt next to the homework, and if you didn’t do it right and neat the first time, you would do it until your fingers bled. There was no getting up from the table or a moment to think under less pressure. Do it or else. And honestly, I would be so scared to be wrong that I would second guess and get stuff wrong. And it made me hate math. But hey, I have perfect handwriting. Laughing at my trauma, but hoping adults understand to be kinder to their children and themselves. Now, Jonathan, while I sympathize with him because I can understand his mindset, what I can’t understand is the method he chose to delete his wife. A sledgehammer. Yikes. That sounds like a brutal and messy way to end someone you love. Especially if it was for the sense of mercy. I feel bad that he felt the only solution was, I hope one day there’ll be better treatment for mental health and depression and true resources to stop people from losing it all when they’ve worked hard their whole life. Christina, first of all, you know I love hearing from you, girl. Christina. Yeah. Yes, I agree with this. Because let’s go back to, uh, the first case. First of all, yes, I would have broken my hands, arms, legs, feet, toes. I’d have broken everything. Look. And I’d have still used my chin to crawl over to her and keep beating her with my head if this woman had touched my child, uh, because of homework. So, yes, secondly, I do have the same experience as you when it comes to doing homework and being yelled at because I got it wrong. And you know it. It. Just because you yelled at me doesn’t mean the answer is going to right next time. Like, if I don’t understand, I don’t understand. No matter how angry you get, no matter what’s going on, I’m still not going to understand. You’re just going to be. You’re just going to be angry and I’m just going to be scared of you. That’s all the outcome is. I still don’t understand though. So I agree with that. And then I, when I started teaching my daughter, I learned early, early on to walk away. Yes. Because I realized that I was losing patience and I realized I was turning into what I didn’t want to be. You know what I’m saying? Stop the cycle. So I walked away. And then, uh, I just learned her learning style and we were fine. My daughter was read, reading by three, you know what I’m saying? So as an adult, you need to freaking. Adult. Control your freaking self and, uh, learn your child’s learning habits and adjust yourself. And if you’re not that person who has patience, leave it alone, give it to somebody else. That’s why it takes a village. Give it to the father, give it to the grandmother, leave it for the school, whatever. If you can’t deal with it without losing your shit, then you don’t need to be teaching your child. And that’s just it. But then again, when somebody teaches your child and you don’t like how they teach your child, not saying like they’re beating them, but you don’t like how they’re teaching your child or whatever, you have nothing to say. Let them do it if you’re not going to do it. And then in the case of, uh, the elderly man killing his wife. Yes. Oh my God, a sledge fricking hammer. But he said he did it because I think, if I remember correctly, because this happened in January, I believe, if I remember correctly, it was another case of the wife was very sick and the medical bills were piling up, if I remember correctly. So it was another case of healthcare in the U.S. basically, he couldn’t find a way out. He, he’s just, the, the debt is mountain, you know, he’s getting depressed and he just couldn’t think of a way out. Am I justifying this? Absolutely not. But I’m just saying this is what I’m getting from it. And, uh, we need healthcare reform. That’s all. I’m not getting into politics. We just need healthcare reform.

Don’t touch my child, period. Do as I say, not as I do

Next comment on this same case, a user by the name of stupidity shouldn’t hurt said, I don’t even want to think about what I would do if an adult hit my kid. I would probably lose my, you know what, and would end up in jail for returning the favor to the adult. Look, I already told you, I would break everything on me and still be trying to beat this person. Look, um, don’t touch my child. You didn’t push this child out. You don’t touch my child. Literally, end of story. If you have a problem with her, you come and tell me. That’s it, point blank, period. Because if you touch her, I’m going to touch you. I don’t think you want me to touch you though. But this is actually a podcast of peace. Don’t follow in Kai’s footsteps. Do as I say, not as I do. So if you missed that case as usual, that episode link is in the show notes below. You can go back and listen to that crazy episode and I will read one more comment.

Florida should be ashamed that Pamela Cabrera is in prison for bipolar disorder

This one is from the case of Pamela Cabrera and it was titled, mother Struggling with mental health Kidnaps and drowns Daughter. Christina Bobo said the state of Florida should be ashamed that this woman is in prison when she should be receiving treatment for her bipolar disorder. It’s an all around tragedy because her family lost two loved ones when they tried to prevent this and was essentially ignored. I hope they win their lawsuit and I also hope that Pamela gets an appeal. I doubt that she’s going to get the help she needs in prison. Yeah, from the title of the episode, you’re like, oh my God, I can’t believe it. But listen to the episode. By the end of the episode you’re going to be like, oh my God, I can’t believe this. And uh, Christina, I do agree with you. Vicki Stevenson says, hi, lovely. I work for mental health in New Zealand and we have a, ah, coercive treatment between mental health and prisons which may work. Okay, well first of all, Vicky, I didn’t know you were in New Zealand. I didn’t even know I was being listened to in New Zealand. So first of all, shocker of all shockers. And second of all, yeah, maybe talk to your government. Well, not right now, but later on I was going to say talk to your government to talk to our government, but now’s not a good time. But we over here do need to have some kind of mental health treatment plan between, uh, prisons and treatment centers, like good treatment centers. Because some of these people we just put in prison when they actually have mental health problem, like they literally didn’t know that they murdered somebody or couldn’t realize right from wrong. Like they’re literally gone and then we just throw them in prison. It’s like, how is that helping them? So yeah, we need reforms on that too. I mean, mental health issues need to be taken seriously. And I mean real mental health issues, not those people who come out, do what they do and then say, oh, mental health, real mental health issues need to have, uh, proper treatment need to be taken seriously. And, uh, there’s just so much reform that we need. But anyway, Vicki, thank you all the way from New Zealand. Thank you for your comment. And that is all I have for you today. For the Florida Man Friday and your comments. Be sure to leave your comments down below. It will be read on a future episode. Thank you for joining me. Thank you for listening all the way to the end. And I will see you in the next episode. Bye.
