In the latest true crime story of our podcast, we delve into two shocking cases that highlight the dark and disturbing side of humanity when dealing with children. This Florida Man Friday, we bring you the stories of Jessica Woods and Helmuth Kolb, two individuals whose actions will leave you shocked.
Our journey begins with Jessica Woods, a 33-year-old woman from Palatka, Florida. On March 4, 2024, Jessica was seen outside an H&R Block with her 18-month-old daughter. What started as a seemingly ordinary day quickly turned into a nightmare. Employees of the nearby bank had noticed Jessica before, often using the restroom to change her daughter. However, this time, the situation took a dark turn. Jessica was seen elbowing and spanking her child, raising immediate concerns.
The following morning, Jessica was found sleeping on an air conditioning unit while her daughter lay in a shopping cart nearby. When approached by a concerned employee, Jessica shockingly asked for money and even threw her child. The employee later witnessed Jessica placing her daughter on the ground, allowing her to crawl towards traffic. Calously, Jessica offered to sell her child for $500. This act of neglect led to her arrest, and she now faces multiple felony charges, including child abuse and abandonment.
As if one disturbing case wasn’t enough, we then uncover the story of Helmuth Kolb, an 85-year-old man from Port Orange, Florida. On August 16, 2022, Helmuth approached a woman at a Winn-Dixie and made a disgusting proposition. He offered to buy her child for $100,000. This wasn’t Helmuth’s first offense. In 2018, he had attempted to buy another child at a Walmart, offering $200,000. Despite being on probation and registered as a sex offender, Helmuth continued his predatory behavior.
Helmuth’s actions were met with immediate intervention from bystanders and law enforcement. He was arrested for violating his probation and had no bond set. Tragically, Helmuth died while in custody due to a medical issue.
