Aaliyah Shantrelle Herring | PA Media
On January 24, 2024, Miami-Dade Police responded to video evidence showing a disturbing case of alleged child abuse. The video, captured during a FaceTime call between 25-year-old Aaliyah Shantrelle Herring and David Jones, the father of her child, showed Aaliyah hitting her three-year-old daughter with what appeared to be a hanger. David immediately reported the incident to authorities after recording the footage, which included Aaliyah making alarming threats against the child. This led to her swift arrest and charges of child abuse and neglect without great bodily harm.
When questioned by police, Aaliyah initially claimed she was disciplining her daughter for throwing a remote. However, when presented with the video evidence, she insisted the footage had been fabricated using artificial intelligence. Aaliyah was placed on a mental health hold under Florida’s Baker Act before being released on bail with conditions, including no contact with the child. Meanwhile, her daughter was placed in the care of Aaliyah’s stepmother and is reported to be in stable condition.
This case underscores the importance of swift action in child abuse allegations and the vital role of vigilant parenting and reporting. With the investigation ongoing and court proceedings ahead, the focus remains on ensuring the child’s safety. Aaliyah Chantrell Herring is charged with child abuse
But now that I gave you that reminder, let’s get back to your Florida man Friday. On January 24, 2024, Miami Dade Police Department responded to the scene and took 25 year old Aaliyah Chantrell Herring into custody, charging her with child abuse and related offenses. The arrest stemmed from a FaceTime call Aaliyah had with David Jones, the father of her child. During what began as a routine video call, David witnessed and recorded disturbing footage of Aaliyah hitting their three year old child. The video captured Aaliyah repeatedly hitting the toddler with what appeared to be a hanger. Quote, she was blowing up my phone, telling me to pick up the child, saying that she had it. I’m making excuses. I’m not caring for her. I’m not acting like the father I was supposed to be, end quote. David and Aaliyah were broken up, and David had visitations with his child. So anyway, David started recording what he was witnessing and send it to police. Some of what he was witnessing was Aaliyah saying stuff like, quote, since you don’t want to handle your own kid, guess what? I’ll eliminate her my damn self. How about that? And also, quote, still don’t want to shut up. That’s fine. Y’all gonna watch me kill this kid. How about that? I don’t know about you, David, but I would be calling 911 and driving at Breakneck speeds to that house to go save my kid. Not shaming you, not saying you did anything wrong because you totally called 911 and you totally recorded it. And you got proof you did everything Right. So basically this is why David had started recording. And this is the evidence that police received. When questioned by police, Aaliyah said that she was, quote, disciplining the victim for throwing a remote at her. So you hit a three year old with a hanger. How about teaching the child not to throw stuff at you or at anybody not to throw stuff, period. This child literally just came into the world three years ago. Literally just learned how to say mama. And you think she understands don’t throw a remote at people. If you didn’t teach her that, and you think teaching her that is to immediately start whooping her with or at any point in time in her life, whooping her with a hanger. If you think this 3 year old should have known that, then you, ma’am, at 25 years old should know that it’s wrong to beat a baby with a hanger. If you expect her to understand the ramifications of throwing a remote at some at somebody, then I expect you to understand the ramifications of beating anybody. You wouldn’t do that to somebody your size. But you would do it to a three year old expecting her to understand that she’s not supposed to do something. Wow. Just. So when police showed her the video, she said that David probably made the video with artificial intelligence lambs. That’s what she said. She said this video is fake. He probably made it with AI and that’s not her in the video. See, this is part of the dangers of AI. I’m not completely against it. I am somewhat against it. Not completely, but I think this is going to be the new I’m innocent because I’m crazy defense. That’s not me in that bank robbing picture. Robbing that bank with thousands of dollars and my ID in my hand, looking at the camera and winking. That was all AI. Police placed Aaliyah on a temporary mental health hold under the Florida Bakers act, which means it’s involuntary. Following this initial assessment, prosecutors filed formal charges, including one count of child abuse with no harm and one count of child neglect with no great bodily harm. So basically what that means is it turns out that she doesn’t have mental health issues. She knew what she was doing. She knew right from wrong. So now you’re getting charged with all of this stuff. Judge Mindy Glazer presided over the initial hearing where Aaliyah entered. Uh, what did she enter? What plea did she do? Do you think she did? Not guilty or guilty. I’m going to give you five seconds. Floor three. Okay. It’s not guilty. She entered a plea of not guilty. She’s still trying to make us believe it’s AI right. During the bail hearing, Judge Glazer granted pretrial release with specific conditions. She has complete prohibition of contact with the child, basically no contact with the baby, mandatory compliance with court order supervision and regular check in with pre trial services. Why did you the bond was set at $7,500 and she was booked into the Miami Dades Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Then she was released on her bill while waiting the trial and with those specific conditions that I gave you. The state attorney’s office maintains strict protocols in child abuse cases requiring substantial evidence before proceeding with prosecution. In Florida, the child abuse charges carry significant penalties and the prosecution must prove both the act and intent beyond reasonable doubt. The Department of Health, while declining direct comments on specific cases, emphasized that, quote, protecting the health and safety of Florida’s children is a top priority. State guidelines mandate face to face contact with the child victim within four hours for urgent cases. The Florida Department of Children and Families guidelines specify that child abuse investigations must be completed within 60 days. During this period, investigators are required to make multiple contact attempt if initial visits are unsuccessful, including early morning and evening visits. Also, if the child were to be returned home, state protocols require investigators to maintain court oversight for an additional six, six months after the child returns to the house. If investigators determine the child cannot safely return within 12 months, the court has to establish alternate long term care arrangements. So basically that’s the process of how the court deals with child abuse cases. In the state of Florida. The child was placed under the care of Aaliyah’s stepmother where the toddler remains in stable condition. Good. At least the baby didn’t go in foster care. She’s still with family.
