Shakeira Rucker
In 2023, a Winter Springs, Florida community is grappling with the shocking disappearance and tragic demise of 37-year-old Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, a devoted mother of four. The Winter Springs Police Department reported that Rucker was last seen on November 11, 2023, with her estranged husband, 51-year-old Cory Hill.
The couple left Rucker’s Winter Springs home around 7:30 p.m. on November 11, and later that night, they were spotted about 70 miles south in Polk County. Little did anyone know that this seemingly ordinary evening would mark the beginning of a harrowing ordeal.
On November 18, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a foul odor emanating from a storage unit in Apopka. Tragically, deputies discovered Rucker’s lifeless body inside with gunshot wounds riddling it.

Sheriff John Mina revealed that Hill, the estranged husband, shot Rucker to death inside the storage unit before callously leaving her body there. The unit was registered under Hill’s name, linking him directly to the crime.
Police went searching for Hill, only to find him already in jail facing charges for attempting to murder another woman just a day after Rucker’s disappearance. His criminal history reveals a troubling pattern, with a 20-year prison sentence stemming from a second-degree murder conviction in Suffolk, Virginia, in 1993.
Hill’s violent tendencies resurfaced on November 12, as he allegedly targeted his ex-girlfriend and her family in a disturbing shooting incident. The ex-girlfriend recounted a terrifying episode where Hill, armed and dangerous, fired at them. The ensuing chaos saw Hill breaking into the home, making threats, and questioning the children inside with a gun at his side.

With four bullets recovered from the scene and home surveillance capturing Hill with a gun, he was promptly arrested on four counts of attempted murder. This incident unfolded just a day after Rucker’s disappearance.
Investigators are satisfied that Hill is in the Orange County Jail without bond, while they are meticulously collecting evidence to build a case against him.

Shockingly, Hill’s violent past extends over 30 years, with a second-degree murder charge in 1992 for a shooting in Suffolk, Virginia. In this case, Hill fatally shot an 18-year-old man whom he believed had stolen his car with his daughter inside.
State Attorney Andrew A. Bain has confirmed that they will seek the death penalty for Hill in the first-degree murder of Shakeira Rucker. The decision stems from the calculated nature of the homicide and Hill’s prior violent offenses.
