In guest host take over episode of our podcast, Kelly and Jenna from ODFM Podcast delve into the true crime story of Dr. Martin McNeil, a man whose seemingly perfect life took a dark and twisted turn. Born in 1956, Martin was an ambitious individual who managed to earn both a medical and a law degree, albeit through dubious means. His life seemed picture-perfect—a loving wife, Michelle Marie Summers, eight children, and a respected position in the community. However, beneath this facade lay a web of deceit, infidelity, and ultimately, murder.
Michelle, a beautiful and accomplished woman, met Martin at a Mormon event for young adults. They quickly eloped and started a family, with Michelle giving birth to four children in five years. The couple later adopted four more children from Ukraine, bringing their total to eight. Despite their seemingly idyllic life, Martin’s arrogance and domineering personality began to surface, especially as he approached his 50th birthday.
Martin’s midlife crisis was marked by an obsession with his appearance. He started tanning, working out excessively, and even suggested that Michelle undergo a facelift—a procedure she reluctantly agreed to out of love for her husband. This decision would prove fatal. Michelle’s post-surgery recovery was marred by an unusual combination of powerful sedatives and painkillers, prescribed by Martin himself. Just days after the surgery, Michelle was found unconscious in the bathtub by their six-year-old daughter, Ada.
Martin’s frantic 911 call and his suspicious behavior during the resuscitation efforts raised red flags, but initially, Michelle’s death was ruled an accident. However, Michelle had confided in her daughter, Alexis, expressing fears that Martin might harm her. This, combined with Martin’s erratic behavior and the discovery of his affair with a woman named Gypsy Willis, led Alexis and her sister Rachel to suspect foul play.
Their suspicions were confirmed when an investigator reopened the case, uncovering a history of fraud, identity theft, and previous allegations of misconduct against Martin. The toxicology report revealed a lethal mix of drugs in Michelle’s system, leading to the conclusion that her death was not accidental.
