Shannon Grant | PA Media
On June 22, 2023, Jacqueline Morais received an unusual text from her daughter Natasha’s phone, asking for money to pay a fine. Concerned, Jacqueline went to Natasha’s apartment in Whetstone, Leicestershire, only to encounter a man who refused her entry. Police forced their way in, uncovering Natasha’s lifeless body hidden beneath her bed, bearing 25 injuries including burns and bruises. The prime suspect, Shannon Grant, a drug dealer with a history of violence, was arrested hours later in Coventry.
Evidence revealed Shannon’s premeditated plan to exploit Natasha financially. He had formed a relationship with her following the death of her boyfriend Rueben, gaining access to her bank account and trust. The day before Natasha’s murder, Shannon purchased cable ties using her card, and on the night of her death, he tortured her in her apartment, leaving her with horrifying injuries before killing her by strangulation. Despite his claims of innocence, physical evidence, CCTV footage, and testimony painted a damning picture.
On March 21, 2024, Shannon was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 34 years, plus a concurrent four-year term for firearm possession. Natasha’s family described their loss as unbearable, calling her a kind, loving, and vibrant presence.
