Eliasard Moneus | PA Media
In this true crime mini-episode of Love and Murder: Heartbreak to Homicide, I tell you about the disturbing case of Eliasard Moneus and the heartbreaking murder of his three-month-old son, Jacob. What started as a normal day for Jacob’s mother turned into a nightmare when Eliasard, after being gone for five days, stormed in, attacked her, and took their baby.
The desperate search for baby Jacob involved multiple law enforcement agencies and volunteers, but the outcome was one no one wanted to face. When officers finally found him, the reality of what had happened was almost too horrific to believe. The autopsy report confirmed what investigators feared most, revealing the unimaginable circumstances surrounding Jacob’s death.
This case is a devastating reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and how quickly things can escalate. If you or someone you know is in an abusive situation, please seek help. Listen now and let me know your thoughts—how do we stop tragedies like this from happening?

Baby Jacob Moneus disappeared on August 10, 2024 in Lafayette, Indiana
The day of August 10, 2024 in Lafayette, Indiana, started like any other three month old. Baby Jacob’s mother was watching a televised church service inside their Acorn Acres apartment when his father, 28 year old Eliasard Moneus, stormed in. They hadn’t even spoken to Eliasard in five days. Without a word, he snatched baby Jacob from his mother’s arms and disappeared into another room. Minutes later, he came back holding a tire iron. Before she could react, he started hitting her repeatedly in the head, causing severe injuries including a fractured skull and multiple lacerations. However, despite her injuries, she still managed to escape and drove herself to the hospital. Now, I know what you’re thinking. What about the baby? Why’d you leave the baby with that crazy man? Have you ever hit your head really, really hard? I am very, very clumsy and I’ve hit my head so hard I have tasted metal before. When that happens, you’re kind of not thinking you might be in a daze or whatever. Especially if she has a fractured skull. She might be in shock. You don’t think clearly. Or she might not think the baby is in danger around him. Maybe she just thought only she was in danger. So again, don’t jud never been in this situation. When police arrived at the hospital, the mother told police that she had no idea where the baby was because what happened was she told the cops what was happening. So they asked her where the baby was, and she said, you know what? I don’t know. This launched an urgent silver alert classifying Jacob as, quote, abducted and in extreme danger. After receiving the hospital’s alert, Lafayette police department rushed to the couple’s house, which was on the 1000 block of Archway Drive, which is actually an apartment, not a house. At the scene, investigators discovered evidence linking to both the assault and the baby’s disappearance. The police team secured the area and initiated a broader search operation, specifically focusing on locations where Eliasard might have taken baby Jacob. After leaving the scene of the crime, Eliasard had driven south towards Indianapolis. Officers found him in Indianapolis the next day on the northeast side of the city. When confronted, he denied knowing Elizabeth anything about where baby Jacob was. Meanwhile, he admitted to attacking his wife and said that he hoped she died from her injuries. What a douchebag. Now, when they brought Eliasard in for questioning, he maintained his ignorance, like, I don’t know where the baby is. I have no idea where Jacob. Jacob. Who? Uh, I don’t know who you’re talking about. He would not tell them anything. So police said, okay, scumbag, remain quiet. And transported him back to Tippecanoe County. And in the meantime, investigators ramped up the their search efforts for baby Jacob. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources started a water based search, going in the water in depths from 5ft to 6ft. Then alongside the DNR team, the US Coast Guard Ice Search and Rescue team joined in. Then the Wisconsin National Guard provided aerial support, also with helicopter surveillance. Then they brought in the K9 unit and drones. So they’re scanning this whole site for any signs of baby Jacob. Local fire departments, volunteer organization and multiple other law enforcement agencies got in on the search. This included the Two Rivers Fire Department, Manitowoc Police Department, Wisconsin Crime Alert Network, Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin K9SOS, Search and Rescue, and Brown County Sheriff Office. So literally everybody at one point in time, they ended up finding some items that belonged to baby Jacob that was in the water. And so they coordinated a search interest in that area where the baby stuff was found. They also issued multiple missing and endangered alerts to try and get the public in on it as well. And search teams worked through the night just trying desperately to find this missing baby. Remember, he’s only three months old. While they’re doing this, investigators went through security footage of anywhere that Eliasard might have been, and they got a hit from a local store. At 6:54pm they saw that Eliasard was alone. He did not have baby Jacob with him. Eliasard had actually said earlier that he did have baby Jacob, but he only had him between 6:40pm and 7:50pm well, they saw him at 6:54pm and no baby Jacob was with him. This particular surveillance showed him at the self checkout register. And from, uh, all angles of the store, they did not see baby Jacob with him. So based on what he was telling police and based on when the mother came into the hospital, investigators figured out that baby Jacob was supposed to be in Eliasard’s care for, like, three hours. So they brought this information over to Ellisard. Are like, okay, you were at the store. We saw you at 6054. The baby was nowhere with you. And once again, he clammed up. He had nothing to say. Then several witnesses spoke to investigators and told them of unusual movements around the apartment’s waste disposal area within the time frame when Jacob disappeared. So police went to the video surveillance system throughout the apartment complex and saw Eliasard entering the building with Jacob at one point in time. But when he was walking around, leaving and coming back and all of this stuff, after that one time, he didn’t have Jacob, uh, anymore. So when investigators presented this information to him, he still shut his mouth. But my thing is, you had a lot to say about your wife. You were saying it with your whole chest. I hope she dies. You know, uh, you were saying all that with your whole chest, but not about your child. And you don’t want to say where your child is, you freaking bum. Everything else was okay, but not that. So because of this new information, the investigation centered on the family’s apartment complex. And at approximately 4:55am on Sunday, officers made a sad discovery. An orange bucket filled with liquid laundry detergent that was placed beside the kitchen trash can contained Jacob’s body. The funny thing is, officers had previously searched the apartment, and they did see the orange bucket, but they had overlooked it because it was a sealed container. So they didn’t think anything of it. Autopsy reports determined that the Thick liquid laundry detergent inside the seal bucket made breathing impossible for the infant. The forensic investigation showed that the detergent’s viscosity caused either smothering or drowning. So basically what that’s saying is the liquid was thick, the lid on, uh, the bucket was provided, no escape, and the infant drowned. But literally it was only a three month old. So it doesn’t matter if you had the bucket open or closed, the infant was going to drown. The infant can’t hold itself up. This bastard just went the extra fricking step of covering the frickin bucket. That’s what he did. The extra diabolical step of covering the bucket containing liquid detergent and his three month. I mean, this is a man that doesn’t really need to go to prison. He needs to get a bucket of liquid detergent, an orange bucket. I even know where to get it. I know where to get an orange bucket filled with liquid detergent and beat him down with it. That’s what he needs. Like, I’m not telling y’all to go and do this. That is not the point.
If I let Baby Jacob’s death sink in, I wouldn’t continue podcast
I’m just saying, just, uh. Oh, the anger, the anger. This is what you did to your baby. And the slow agonizing. Oh, okay. Not going to. Not going to let it sink in. Not going to let it sink in. Not going to let it sink in. Okay. All right. I’m good. Whoo. I was starting to get sad. I was starting to get, getting ready to cry. I was getting angry because I was thinking about that baby. But I, uh. For me to be able to continue. If you’re new here, then this is the first time you’re hearing this. If you’re a lamb that’s been here before, then you already know. I have to keep my mental health, mental health thing. If I really, really delve deep into, you know, how people are dying, if I really, like, think about it and let it sink in, I won’t be able to continue this podcast. I wouldn’t be able to continue this podcast. I have an episode that I ended up crying on air. I don’t even remember. I think that was in season three and ended up crying on air because it was just too much. That was before I learned not to let it sink in and how not to let it sink in. And it was really getting to me, this job. But anyways, so trust me, I’m not taking this lightly. If I allow it to, I would be sitting here blubbering. But again, I wouldn’t be able to do my job. I wouldn’t be able to do this podcast anymore. I wouldn’t be able to get Baby Jacob’s story out there, which is the main thing. I love when people leave me comments talking about, oh, uh, they trust. Trying to profit off of this. No, there’s so much other things I could be. So many other different type of podcasts I could be doing and profiting off of that. I’m trying to get this story out there. I’m trying to talk about this piece of shit, Eliasard Mano, who did this to his child because his story needs to be, uh, heard. Baby Jacob’s story needs to be heard, and everybody needs to know what piece of crap this guy is. This father, so called, quote, unquote father. That’s why I do the show. Not to profit off of a freaking baby’s murder. Are you crazy when you type these things? When you take your time to type these comments to me, do you think about what you’re saying? Are you literally crazy? Anyways, but I go through a process so I don’t let it sink in, uh, so I can keep my mental health up there. So I could talk about the story of the person who’s not here to tell their story, and so I could teach people who were possibly going through and they might be a hair’s breadth, um, away from making this same mistake. And maybe somebody was passing by them and they heard my loud voice yelling, don’t do it, and it stopped them to teach people there are different ways. This is why I do the podcast, and this is why I need to keep my mental health in tip top shape. So all that to say, don’t think. Because I was like, oh, don’t let it sink in. Don’t let it sink in. Don’t think I’m taking it lightly. I’m not. But I have to keep my mental health at a certain area for me to continue on with this podcast. Anyways, the coroner’s examination determined asphyxia as the prime cause of death, and investigators classified the manner of death as homicide.
Even small amounts of detergent pose serious threats to young children
Now, talking about detergents. Research indicates that detergents rank among the most hazardous items for infants, with chemical burns and internal injuries being common risks. Medical experts emphasize that even small amounts of these substances pose serious threats to young children. So basically, please put detergent high away from children. Don’t be like, oh, I have a child lock. Oh, I have a this lock. Children are, um, MacGyvers. They gonna get into anything. It’s a child block to us. Basically, it’s an adult lock. Uh, but to Them, they’ll figure it out. You need to keep it high enough away from them, or literally just teach them, don’t touch. Because I didn’t have that problem with my daughter. I taught her, no, this is not for you. Not that I had it like, where she could reach, but at the same time, she had to learn the word no and don’t go there, and consequences. If you go there, you are going to get in trouble. No. So, as parents, I know we don’t like to discipline our children. And, um, I’m not saying beat the crap out of them or anything. There are different forms of discipline, but we need to be disciplined with ourselves in order to discipline our children. So you teach them that they don’t touch these things. You teach them that it’s dangerous. And you teach them if they do ignore you and touch it, there will be consequences. So basically, keep it out of your children’s reach and teach them this is not something to play with because, check this out. The forensic team’s findings aligned, uh, with patterns seen in other cases involving household items turned deadly. Studies show that between 1990 and 2015, over 17,000 children under six years old suffered injuries from common household items. That’s why I’m saying, teach them and keep it out of their reach. Anyway. Eliasard was charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, and criminal confinement. Judge Sarah Wyatt presided over the initial hearing where language barriers emerged and caused a significant challenge. A court appointed Haitian Creole translator was brought in to go through the proceedings. Through the translator, Judge Wyatt carefully explained the charges, ensuring that Eliasard understood each leg presented. Now, although Eliasard, uh, acknowledged hearing the charges, his response through the translator went as follows. Quote, indeed, I heard everything that you say, and I understand, but when it comes to killing people, I don’t know about it, end quote. That’s what he had to say. So literally, he was saying, not guilty, your honor. Freaking douchebag. Fricking douchebag. The judge addressed potential comprehension issues directly, asking Ilissard, quote, would it be fair to say that you understand what I have read to you, but you disagree with some or all of the charges, End quote. His response, of course, through the translator, maintained his oh, he just. Basically, he’s claiming ignorance. Legal experts say that claims of ignorance rarely succeed as a defense strategy in criminal cases. The criminal justice system operates on the principle that basic social norms, such as prohibitions against murder, are universally understood regardless of language barriers. Because you understand murder bad, you guilty, not guilty. And I’m saying that because I’M saying it like that, not that I’m mocking anybody who speaks another language. I’m just saying if you even use just one word, leave out all the conjunctions and adjectives and everything like that, and you could literally say, like, murder bad in a language. Guilty. Not guilty. They understand exactly what you’re saying. You don’t have to speak the language fluently for them to understand. You know what you’re here for. You know what you did. Did you do it or did you not? Are you guilty or are you not guilty? Now, that’s why I was saying it like that. Not that I was making fun of anybody who speaks a different language. That’s why they’re saying this is universally, universally understood, regardless of language barriers. So you can sit there trying to I don’t understand angle, but you have a translator there. You understood exactly what was being said. You understood why you were arrested. And if it even wasn’t for baby Jacob, you douchebag. You beat that woman in the head with a freaking tire iron. You know exactly why you’re there. Don’t play the I don’t understand, I don’t understand bullshit because you understand at the end of the hearing, and because Elazar is a freaking coward, douchebag, jerk, asshole. And he refused to speak. Judge Wyatt entered a, uh, not guilty plea on his behalf. Then, on top of everything, Eliasard’s immigration status emerged as a critical factor in the bond determination. The prosecution emphasized, uh, potential flight risk concerns, citing his limited ties to the Lafayette community. Judge Wyatt then ordered Eliasard held without bond. The defense team filed a motion requesting a comprehensive mental assessment. Two independent psychiatrists will conduct separate evaluations to determine LSR’s competency. The superior court established protocols for these assessments, saying medical and criminal history records must be submitted within three days. A, uh, competency hearing date will be set after evaluations, and the defendant may select one evaluating doctor. Bullshit. He can’t select crap. Well, you know what? To keep it fair. Okay, okay, I take that back. To keep it fair, yes, he would select a doctor. Because, uh, if it’s just a court selecting the doctor, the prosecution selecting the doctor, he can come back and appeal that and say, well, how do I know their doctor’s credential? Yeah. So I take it back. Yes, he can select one evaluating doctor. The prosecution presented evidence of Eliasard’s violent behavior, citing his statement about wanting his wife to die from her injuries. They also stated that Eliasard placed his son in the container after forcibly taking him from his mother’s arms. So that’s how long that poor baby was in the bucket from. Since he came in and snatched her, and then he put the baby in the bucket, and then he came back and started beating her in the head. Oh, my God. Alongside domestic battery charges, prosecutors highlighted multiple aggravating factors such as battery resulted in serious bodily injury, use of a deadly weapon, and violence committed in presence of a child under 16. Judge Wyatt issued a strict no contact order requiring Elazar to sign documentation acknowledging these restrictions before he tries to use the I didn’t understand the language defense. You had a, uh, translator. You have no excuses. The defendant must remain separated from his wife throughout the legal proceedings. Two psychiatrists will evaluate his mental competency before the trial begins on January 21, 2025. And as usual, I see no updates on this so far. I don’t know.
If convicted, man faces 45 to 65 years for Baby Jacob’s murder
I think in four. Well, sorry, we’re in season five. In five seasons, we’ve come across one case that actually kept to the schedule that they put out. If they said the trial was on January 21st, the trial was on January 21st. And that was only one case in five seasons that I’ve seen that happen. So I will keep you in the loop when new information comes out. And if convicted, he faces 45 to 65 years for just the murder alone, plus additional years for the attempted murder and the battery charges. And now I just want to remind you that this case isn’t about the legal arguments. It’s not about even my podcast. It’s not about. It’s just about a mother who lost her child and a baby’s life that was stolen in this most horrific, terrible, diabolical manner. The murder of baby Jacob is a heartbreaking case of domestic violence that escalated to an unspeakable crime. His death wasn’t an accident. It was the result of premeditated and calculated actions from a crazy asshole, cowardly man. Now, this case is a reminder, A, uh, reminder of the importance of recognizing signs of abuse and taking action before it’s too late. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please, please, please seek help. I know you can’t always just get up and leave, but you could at least talk to somebody in some form or fashion. You can call the National Domestic violence hotline at 1-800-799-7233. You can go to the hotline.org, you can speak to a friend, you can speak to a, uh, family members. And with the 800 number that 800-799-7233, all calls are toll free. And confidential. And the hotline is available 247 in more than 170 languages. No one, not even you, should suffer in silence. And that is the case of the murder of Baby Jacob. What did you think about that?
