In a world where love and murder often collide, this week’s episode goes into a story that is as shocking as it is heartbreaking. Imagine a pastor, a man who’s supposed to be of love and of community, allegedly paying $40,000 to have his daughter’s boyfriend killed. This is not a plot from a crime novel but a real-life incident that shook the community of Riverside, California.
On October 21, 2022, a 20-year-old man was shot multiple times while driving on Grove Community Drive. Despite his injuries, he managed to drive himself to the hospital and survive. The investigation that followed uncovered a web of deceit and betrayal, leading to the arrest of Samuel Pasillas, a 47-year-old pastor from Victorville, and his alleged accomplice, Juan Manuel Cebreros.
The Riverside Police Department, utilizing their robbery homicide unit, problem-oriented policing team, and crime analysis unit, discovered that this was a premeditated murder-for-hire plot. Samuel Pasillas, a respected pastor, allegedly paid $40,000 to have his daughter’s boyfriend killed. The motive? Disapproval of his daughter’s relationship.
As the investigation unfolded, detectives found that the men had conducted weeks of surveillance on the victim, meticulously planning the attack. The arrest of Pasillas and Cebreros on charges of solicitation of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon sent shockwaves through the community.
Ky questions the morality of using money, potentially from community donations, to fund such a horrible act. She also reflects on the broader implications of parental interference in their children’s lives, especially when it leads to such extreme actions.
