The case we are talking about tonight is something that is in the news right now. Because it’s still ongoing, I will say that everything we say here is ALLEGED. I want to talk about this case because it’s insane AND I don’t understand it so I kind of want to talk through it.
This is the case of Gloria Williams and Brian Coulter.
This case took place in Houston Texas. On Sunday, October 24, 2021 police received a frantic call from a 15 year old boy. I searched high and low for that 911 call but couldn’t find it. So he called the police and told them that his 8 year old brother, whose name is Kendrick Lee, was dead. But not only was he dead, he’d been dead for like a year and their parents left his body inside the house in a room.
Police were dispatched to an apartment complex at West Oaks Apartment Complex located at 3535 Green Crest near Addicks and Clodine and Westpark tollway. They found that the children had been abandoned – a 15 year old boy, a 10 year old boy and a 7 year old boy. When I say abandoned I mean that no parent was around and seemed not to be around for a while.
The 10 year old boy had a broken jaw that seemed to have been like that for WEEKS.
The children were very thin in appearance and you could just tell they were really malnourished. There was no furniture in the apartment and it was just very filthy. I mean how good are small children gonna clean anyway. The apartment was infested – INFESTED – imagine that word – with insects and the carpet was dirty with urine, dirt, and possible feces.
And the most gruesome find was the skeletal remains of a child, out in the open, in one of the rooms of the apartment.
Harris County Sheriff, Ed Gonzalez said, “I think the older sibling was basically doing the best he could to take care of the others.”
When police questioned them, they said their mother didn’t live there any more and the 15 year old informed them that he’d found his brother dead, a week before Thanksgiving in 2020.
Police said that it didn’t look like the children were locked in the apartment so they wondered why it took them a year to ask for help and report the death of their brother.
The children hadn’t been in school since May of 2020 which is normal for a lot of children in the time of COVID so I can see how that didn’t raise any red flags.
The boys were taken to the hospital where surgery was scheduled for the jaw of the 10 year old. Doctors found fractures in his face and the other kids were actually, clinically malnourished.
During the investigation, police found out that neighbors had been feeding the 15 year old child for months, but they didn’t know any more children were inside. I’m pretty sure the 15 year old was sharing his food with his younger brothers as much as he could. The mother also would bring food for them once in a while. Neighbors said they’d found the 15 year old sleeping on one of the slides in the park. She, Gloria Chapman, said she would see the mother coming by a few times to drop off food. She would park and the 15 year old would run downstairs and get food like Oodles of Noodles, chips, and drinks and run back upstairs. She would bring him food, when she realized that his mother wasn’t bringing him enough food, but he wouldn’t eat anything someone cooked; the food had to be bought and sealed in its casing. She said he told her that he was afraid of being poisoned. I mean what the freak?
Another neighbor, Trevor Thompson, also said he gave the kids food and confirmed that the 15 year old was uber paranoid about being poisoned.
While the investigation continued, the mother, Gloria Williams (35) and her boyfriend Brian Coulter (31) were found on Sunday night, questioned and released. RELEASED!
During the autopsy, the medical examiner said that the 8 year old died due to “blunt force injuries.”
Gloria and Brian were arrested on Tuesday, October 26 at a library while they were – what do you think they were doing? They were arrested while they were searching for news articles about themselves. Brian was charged with the murder of the 8 year old. The mother is facing charges of injury to a child by omission, tampering with evidence, failure to provide adequate supervision, failure to provide medical care. They were both also charged with neglecting three children.
School authorities had filed truancy papers in 2019 and 2020 when two of the children didn’t go back to school. The charges were dismissed when COVID became a full blown pandemic.
Investigators also found that Gloria had a history with child protective services, but there were no active investigations when the kids were found.
Police believe that the apartment was being paid for using government assistance.
It is believed that the 10 year old’s jaw was broken and fractures to his face came from beatings Brian gave him.
It was also revealed that the 10 year old boy was in the room when Brian allegedly beat the 8 year old to death. He kicked him and punched him in the back and lower region. The 10 year old then witnessed Brian place a blue blanket over the dead child, where it stayed for a year.
Gloria claims that she yelled at Brian to stop while he was assaulting her son. She said that she didn’t report the death because Brian told her not to. That’s it? It’s believed that shortly after the murder is when Brian and Gloria moved out of the apartment.
Brian has a $1 million bond and is being held at a mental health facility. Gloria has a bond of $900,000.
So that’s what we have so far about this case. Gloria is under arrest, Brian is under arrest at a mental health facility, I don’t know where the kids are but I’m sure they are with CPS and traumatized, and the 8 year old is dead.
This case makes me wonder how much abuse was swept under the rug during the covid pandemic.
