Today we have another pretty recent case. This particular story took place this year, so the details of the story are still fresh, but it sticks to the parameters of Love and Muder – it’s a love isosceles triangle. This story involves toxic relationships, mental abuse, manipulation, deception, and, of course, lies – because you can’t have a love and murder marriage without lies. Be sure to check out www.murderandlove.com to listen to our other love isosceles triangle episodes – like the crazy case of Sabrina Limon or the insane Kelly Cochran case. When you listen to them, I’m sure you’re gonna be a stupified as we were. So, it’s time to strap up and strap in and let’s talk about the case of Kristie Evans.
Kristie Dawnelle Evans was born sometime in 1974. I’m not too clear on her exact birthday but I do know she was born in Roland, Oklahoma. For much of her childhood and early adulthood, Kristie lived in Roland, where she grew up as a small-town girl. I say that because you know small town residents and city residents, for instance, grow up differently. In high school, she met David Evans, who was described as a pretty chill guy who gave off a vibe of being cool and nonchalant. David was born in 1971 and was three years older than Kristie. According to his mother, Jean Robertson, he was a friendly person who everyone loved and adored. I couldn’t find much about David or Kristie’s early childhood but what I can tell you is that both had a pretty normal, small town childhood.
Kristie and David met in high school but it wasn’t love at first sight. It could have been the age difference or maybe they just wanted to be friends first, but by February 1991, when Kristie was only 17 years old, they started dating. Things must have gone so well because four months into their relationship, they got married.
Kristie and David’s life was that of a happily married couple – having a whirlwind relationship, having a house together, having one daughter and two sons, and basically doing everything together. Everyone was jealous of their relationship because it was so picture perfect. David became a Pastor of the Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Ada, Oklahoma.
Now, David wasn’t always Baptist; he didn’t grow up in a religious household and he actually considered himself non-religious when he was younger. Over time, things began to change. When Kristie and David were first married, he started working at a Bible bookstore. When they started having kids, he began to develop an interest in Christianity. As time went on, Kristie and David moved about three hours Southwest of their childhood town. David, being the charismatic and personally charming person that he has always been, quickly began to gain popularity in their new town. All of their neighbors fell in love with David. He was cool, he was sweet, and he was just plain loveable. He was someone everyone wanted to be around. By this time, his interest in Chrisitanity had grown and he became a devoted person to that.
His family never really seemed to mind any of this. Seeing David develop a love for such community involvement never seemed like an issue. So – when David offered himself up to be a Pastor of Harmony Free Will Baptist Church, they thought it just seemed like the right choice for them. To them, it just seemed like it was the next step for their family.
Now, although David was charming and charismatic to everyone on the outside, as soon as he came into his house and closed the door, he was known to be pretty abusive. In a statement that was released in 2021 – this year as of this recording – their daughter, Brittany Long, now 28 years old, claimed that he was violently aggressive to everyone in the house. According to Brittany, she couldn’t remember a time when her father was actually not abusive to them. He was so abusive to his family that it wasn’t uncommon for David to slam the kids’ heads together and lift them up by their hair. When they were younger, David would make his children stay up all night to clean the house, only to spill stuff and make them clean it up all over again. On top of that, he would yell insults and spew hate at them while they worked. There was even a time when Brittney got a letter from her best friend at school David saw the letter, ripped it up, and told her, “I’m the only friend you need!” What do you think so far about this man?
Now, if you thought that was bad, things are about to get a little more stupider. Now if you watch 90 Day Fiance, you know where I got that from. David was one of those crazy men who abused his children and his wife. AND he was completely obsessed with his money. He never wanted his kids to have any of it and if they needed some, they got it with strings attached; they could only use it the way he wanted them to. For Kristie, it was no different. He was extremely stingy with his money. According to Brittany, he was so stingy that when her and her mother would go to Sonic, for instance, when they finished eating they would make sure not to leave a single drop of evidence for him to find. One day, Kristie warned Brittany that if David ever found out that they had spent money in ways he never approved of, he would punish them. Things were stressful and abusive in that house, and you can’t even imagine what it was like for the couple to have an argument. Sometimes, when they were arguing, David would hold a pillow over Krsitie’s face while he yelled at her and he would pin down her arms, not allowing her to move. At times, Kristie would feel herself suffocating but, later, she would be too scared to speak up because he might find it “disrespectful” and go too far in “punishing her”.
And if by this point you’re wondering if anyone has ever called the cops. The answer is yes, but it was never Kristie who did it. There were several times when things got so heated that authorities came to the house. On April 4, 2010, an 18-year-old Brittany and her two younger brothers were sent to live with their maternal grandparents after they reported an incident to the police that their father had physically abused them. Now, there doesn’t seem to be any records by the Roland Police Department of these incidents, but apparently, it’s because they just don’t keep records of events from that long ago. That makes no sense because that was only 11 years ago. However, we know that it definitely happened because Zachariah Evans, one of the younger boys, reported that he was physically abused by his father. And even their grandfather, Ed Armer, claimed that he and his wife once took in the three kids because it was too dangerous for them to live in their own home. I’m not sure if you heard what I said – too DANGEROUS for them to live in their own home. What the what?!
Can you imagine this as a child?
It still gets worse. The entire time that David was acting like this at home, he was showing something else online (and as we know already, in person). But are you really surprised he was showing a false personality online? I mean if you were to look up fake, deceit, lies, etc…you would see social media icons right next to the definition. We know that anyone can sell their story as truth on social media and everyone has the right to take it all with a grain of salt. (and I also hope that you do)
Well, in the case of David and Kristie, it was no different. On Facebook, it looked like David and Kristie were obsessed with each other. And I mean, obsessed. They would act like they were still dating and were fresh out of high school. Their online profiles only had amazing things to say about each other. They would say things like “My wife is the most beautiful, amazing person ever.” Kristie, in her post, or even in response to that comment, would say things like, “How on Earth did I ever get so lucky with a man like you. I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART.” Let me tell yall this right now; I TOTALLY know people like this. I’m sure yall do too.
Social Media was like a mask for these two – as it is for most people -it covered up some of the darkest realities of their private lives. It was also a great tool for the both of them to explore different avenues of their own personal love life.
Speaking of which, for some time, David had not felt completely satisfied with his sex life. In Facebook messages that spanned from 2017 to earlier this year- 2021 – David complains about his sex life and pushes Kristie repeatedly to make his sex life more “fun” and “exciting.” In a series of messages on November 27, 2017, Kristie and David discussed the possibility of sprucing up their sex lives. Which to me seems like a pretty ballsy proposition coming from a man who was insanely physically and mentally abusive. Naturally Kristie was hesitant about the whole thing; it wasn’t something that she wanted to do at all. In the messages, Kristi admitted that she was open to anything, but only if it involved just the two of them. In her head, she thought that maybe David might be going for some kind of roleplay, inclusion of toys, dress up – stuff like that, but David had a different idea. And with the gorilla size cajones he had, he asked her a big question.
In December of 2017, David asked Kristie how she felt about a threesome. Because, I mean, why not right. He was already a dick – so why not escalate it. And he went on to show how big of a dick he was. He told Kristi that he wanted him and another man to repeatedly call her “bitch,” “slut” and “whore.” At this point, it’s not even surprising to see that David may have had these latent desires – as was openly aggressive with her at home. He may have wanted to share the load a bit with another man — but that’s just speculation on our part.
So, Kristie responded saying that she didn’t mind and had requested for the insults to remain “generic.” In other words, no personal attacks, no insults that specifically geared towards her or her family. David obliged – which, of course he would. What do you think? He’s gonna say no?! – and soon the sexcapades began. But it wasn’t without a fight. Kristie was never comfortable with the whole idea of threesomes. She was a pretty private person but knew that she could never really disobey her husband. So, in her mind, there really was no way out, but she did try to resist many times. Maybe she felt that he would get bored and stop asking, or annoyed enough that he would just leave it alone.
At first, everything was ok – I mean as ok as they can be with Kristie just going along with this so she wouldn’t get her face beat in – but then, in true David fashion, things started to get worse. I mean – give a person an inch, they take a mile. David started taking her to clothing-optional parks. I didn’t even know that was a thing! Then he started taking her to sex clubs. Then he started posting vague advertisements and announcements soliciting sex on sites like Craigslist. Like most things in their relationship, Kristie never saw those personal ads, but she admitted to feeling a lot safer when, in 2018, David told her that the site had completely banned any form of personal ads.
David didn’t leave Kristie alone about the threesome either; he kept requesting it and harassing her for it. He begged her to bring home a co-worker to participate in sex. He also asked her to perform sex acts with other men. What do you think Kristie said to this? Well, you’d be right; she said no. Both times.
David got increasingly irritated and demanded Kristie give him a typed-up, printed statement all about their sex life. What is he, her English teacher? He texted her, “MUST HEAR FROM YOU!” And when she didn’t do it, he verbally abused her. In an hours-long text argument in April, he called her a “frigid bitch” and said it was fault that they weren’t able to hook up with other swingers when they went out. He would tell her that they didn’t like her; that they didn’t want a second round with her. Kristie was like ..ok…fine. I didn’t want to have sex with those people anyway; I just wanted to have sex with my husband. When the threats didn’t work, David said he’d kill himself. Now listeners, this is another time when I’m going to tell you to listen up. This is another trick that abusers, narcissists, and general assholes use; threatening to kill themselves. They do this so that you’ll stay and make sure they don’t do it. Now, I’m not gonna tell you what to do if that happens as some people are so narcissistic that if you DO leave, they might just do it so that you will live with the guilt. PERSONALLY, now that I’ve been through it, I’m still leaving and if you do it, do it knowing that I’m going to live the rest of my life guilt free. Now, I know to some of you this sounds like a dick move, but who’s really the dick? Me or the person trying to keep me where I don’t want to be by threats of suicide?
Kristie never really believed his threats; he was too much of a narcissist to commit suicide, but she knew that he had the power to one day kill her instead and couldn’t afford to take that risk.
So, she submitted to him. She became supportive, quiet, soft, and gracious. Everything a master manipulator would want in a partner. As one of the messages he sent to Kristi read, “Give me something sexual. Something now. That you provide. Not that I have to make it happen or beg or force. YOU GIVE ME SOMETHING.”
I just wanted to read that message to you so that you can see how he spoke to her.
By February of 2021, David had told his kids that their mother was divorcing him. What?! Why would you tell your children this? So Brittney, their daughter, started calling Kristie. She called her for hours but couldn’t reach her. She just wanted to find out if everything was ok and what was going on. Probably also calling to congratulate her mother for finally leaving David. After HOURS of calling, Kristie finally answered the phone. According to Brittney, she acted “robotic” like she was answering her questions in monosyllables or just really short answers. She kept saying that she and David were fine. So Brittney was like…well ok then. I was just checking. And hung up.
By late 2020, early 2021, David finally got his wish and he found a partner for their threesome. The partner they found was a 26 year old named Kahlil Deamie Square. They were sex partners for about 2 months.
Kristie and David would meet Kahlil at a local Super 8 Motel. One particular day, they met up and had their fun, and, as they were leaving, Kristie dropped a piece of paper on the floor. Real subtle like, but subtle enough for David not to notice. In the note, Kristie had written her phone number. Why should you be shocked and worried for her? Well, up until this point, their communication had been through Facebook or personal ads. Kristie having over her personal phone number was a direct message for Kahlil to pursue her privately. It’s not for certain if Kristie was simply looking for a friend, or if she was beginning to feel attracted to Kahlil, but what we do know is that Kahlil did not hesitate to take that piece of paper and call Kristie.
After this, Kristie and Kahlil started an intimate friendship. For months, both of them would see each other outside of their regular “love hours” with David. It was during this time that Kristie confessed all of her inner emotions to Kahlil. And she didn’t hold back.
Kristie opened up to Kahlil in the way she wanted to talk to someone for years; she felt safe with Kahlil and knew that he wouldn’t hurt her in the way David did. She felt in her heart that Kahlil was a friend and person with whom she could confide in. She liked Kahlil and she liked that he gave her something that was more meaningful and hopeful, and Kahlil knew what was going on at Kristi’s house.
Around mid-March of 2021, David was out of town. He was on a mission trip to Mexico as a pastor to help out young Mexicans who had been rejected an American immigration status. It had been a while since he drove all the way down to Mexico and was staying there for a couple of weeks. During this time, Kristie was free. She didn’t have to live with a monster breathing down her neck 24/7; she didn’t have to live with the threat of death constantly with her.
Krsitie had Kahlil stay over. He had stayed over the duration of David’s absence. For Kristie, it was a nice break, but for her neighbors, it looked very suspicious. The neighbors were kind of confused by Kahlil’s white mustang constantly in front of the house. They didn’t know where it had come from and they didn’t know why it was staying at Kristie and David’s house for so long. I’m pretty sure they knew that David was out of town and so it felt kind of strange to see a mysterious car parked in their driveway. Kristi probably told them all to mind their business; but one thing’s for sure – she didn’t let their nosiness stop her from what she wanted to do. During his stay, Kristie told him how she felt about David.
Just days before David got back, Kristie posted a comment to his Facebook wall that said, “What a handsome husband I have!” to which David responded, “Hey, thanks!”.
When David got back, Kristie acted like nothing was wrong. She continued being openly romantic and gushy and lovey dovey with David on Facebook even though she’d just had a man in his house and in his bed.
Kristie went about her life with David as normal, but on the night of March 22, 2021 she awoke to a horrible sight; her husband’s blood soaked body right next to her. Horrified, she called 911.
And here is the 911 call –
**listen to the episode to hear it**
Kristie: Someone shot my husband. He’s in a pool of blood and I heard a loud pop. He’s bleeding out his nose and mouth and it’s all over the bed.
Dispatch: You think someone shot your husband?
Kristie: Yes.
911 Dispatch: OK.
Kristie: He’s lying in a pool of blood.
Kristie: Oh my god.
911 Dispatch: It’s OK babe, it’s OK.
At first, Kristie Evans told police a stranger killed her husband then vanished.
Kristie: I woke up to a loud pop.
911 Dispatch: You woke up to a loud pop?
Kristie: Yeah.
911 Dispatch: Do you see a gun or anywhere around him?
Kristie: No, I don’t see anything.
As you can hear, on the call Kristie was shocked by some random home invasion where only her husband was shot and she wasn’t hurt at all.
When police arrived, Kristie was very distraught. She said she’d never imagined someone would want to kill David and didn’t know why he would ever be a target. She told police that she abruptly awakened and found her husband lying in a pool of blood. She didn’t know what else to do but to call the police! She’d smelled smoke and couldn’t tell where it was coming from.
She told officers that when she saw her husband gasping for air and lying in a pool of blood, she ran downstairs and ran outside to find his killer. She thought it must have been an intruder but when she didn’t see anyone, she called 911.
So, the police began to do their investigation. They questioned all of the neighbors, asking if they had seen or heard anything suspicious. They had all said no. Police questioned if they’d noticed if something was different between Kristie and David and they said no to that also. A couple of neighbors did admit to seeing an unrecognizable, white mustang parked in front of Kristie’s house. They said that the mustang had been there for a while and was there the night of the murder, but, coincidentally, it was no longer there.
One helpful neighbor said that they had a security camera and was open to giving the footage to the cops. Of course the police said yes. When they looked at the footage they saw the white mustang parked outside the house. Police came back to the house and told Kristie that they were working on finding the intruder and would keep her posted on the case. Instead, they took the information that they got back to the station and ran the plates of the white mustang. They find that the car is registered to 26 year old Kahlil Square. They noticed that the white mustang was only at the residence when David was out of town and was also there when the murder happened, but that it was gone what the police arrived.
Now the police want to know, who was Kahlil? Was he a friend of Kristie’s? Was Kahlil not a friend of David’s?
On Thursday of March 25, Krisite called her daughter to come over. They sat down and had a long conversation. After that, Brittany called the police station saying that Krisite would be coming in later today to give a confession. It was a huge surprise for everyone. The police were completely blindsided even though they were about to make Kahlil and Kristie suspects.
When Krisite arrived at the station, she confessed to everything. She told police about her younger days with David, about his abuse, her weak mental state, the sexcapades, the threesomes, the personal ads.
And remember when David had said that Kristie was gonna divorce him and Brittney called her mom and she sounded robotic? Yea well that was because David was sitting near her during the phone call and had a .357 revolver aimed at his chin.
She also talked about the night of the murder. She said that she convinced Kahlil to stay over while David was out of town. While David was gone, her and Kahlil spoke and she convinced him that she couldn’t take it anymore and asked Kahlil if he could end it for her. Not if he would kill her, but if he would kill David for her and as any sane person would, Kahlil said sure and they started planning. After some time, Kristie and Kahlil settled on a plan. The plan was for Khalil to come to the house in the middle of the night and shoot David with a gun and bullets that Kristie would provide for him. All of the tools were actually David’s and they were going to use it against him. The night David got back, on March 22, 2021, Krisit gave Kahlil a gun, its bullets, and the perfect time to pull their plan off. On her way to bed, she left the back door unlocked so that he could easily come in. When she heard him enter, she went downstairs. On her way down, she’d made too much noise. He thought it was David who would be coming down the stairs.
But Kristie assured him that everything was still on plan; that David was still asleep and he should still move forward. So he did. Kahlil walked up the stairs, up to the master bedroom where he found David sound asleep. He shot him and quickly ran out the back door, sprinting so none of the neighbors would see him.
Kristie had remained in the living room all of this time and when she walked back into the bedroom, she saw David in the bed making “a gurgling sound.” She then sat on the edge of her side of the bed and called 911
Oh my God! That’s some cold blooded shit!
This confession shocked the police and the neighborhood and the community – they all knew and loved David as a person who preached about love, peace, and hope. They all thought he was a mentally sane person they could trust. However, everything Kristie had confessed went directly against what they knew David would preach.
With Kristie’s confession, Kahlil was arrested and charged with first degree murder. Kristie was also arrested and charged with first degree murder. Both Kristie and Kahlil are being held in jail without bail. While Kahlil has pleaded guilty, Kristie has yet to make a statement.
Brittney said that she knew her and her siblings could escape from that house as soon as they turned 18, but their mom couldn’t. She said, “My mom didn’t see an end to it. I don’t think she had it in her to continue living that way.”
Kristie’s lawyers said that they will present her case as one of a battered woman.
The church released a statement after David was murdered and it reads, “Harmony Free Will Baptist Church has been grieving the death of our pastor, David Evans, over the last few days. The circumstances that are now coming to light have taken us by surprise and we are greatly saddened. We are aware that even pastors can succumb to human frailty.”
Kristie and Kahlil were supposed to have a hearing on July 8th, but I couldn’t find anything more on this. Did they go to trial? Did they not? If anyone finds an update before I do, send it my way please. You can email us at noconductradio@gmail.com
So Kristi Evens is awaiting trial…? Kahlil Deamie Square is awaiting trial also…? And David Evans is dead.
And that is the story of Kristie and David Evans
