In a true crime documentary episode of True Crime Tuesday, we delve into a case that is as weird as it is unsettling. Two Ohio women, Loreen Feralo and Karen Casbohm, have been charged with gross abuse of a corpse and theft after allegedly driving the body of 80-year-old Douglas Lehman to a bank to withdraw money from his account.
The incident took place on March 4, when police responded to a 911 call from the Ashtabula County Medical Center. The call reported that an elderly gentleman had been dropped off at the facility with no information, and the two women who left him there had vanished. Hours later, one of the women called the facility, providing details that led authorities straight to them.
Douglas Lehman had been living with Loreen Feralo, who had been in a relationship with him for about seven to eight years. Karen Casbohm, a friend of Loreen, had moved into their home a few months prior. According to their account, they found Douglas dead in the house and decided to take him to the bank to withdraw money, allegedly to pay some bills. With the help of a third person, Justin Kelly, they positioned Douglas’ body in the front seat of his car to make it appear as though he was a passenger.
Surveillance footage from the bank captured the women and the deceased Douglas, leading to their arrest. Both women have pleaded not guilty, despite the overwhelming evidence against them, including a recorded phone call where Karen admitted to knowing Douglas was dead when they took him to the bank.
This case is still under investigation, and additional charges could be filed. If convicted, they could face up to a year in prison for each charge.
